Tiny Gallery presents "Artifacts" by Klaus A. Schnitzer, Emeritus Professor at Montclair State University. Schnitzer's show combines two collections from his inspiring photography career: "Ellis Island Artifact Series" (1983-1993) and "Sandy Hook" (1972 and ongoing).
For his Ellis Island collection, Schnitzer chartered a boat with a group of students and explored the island, which approximately 12 million immigrants passed through between 1892 and 1954. He captured abandoned objects that had been waiting for 62 years, as if time had stopped.
Sandy Hook is an ongoing project that Schnitzer still turns to. The eroding architecture of Fort Hancock, is haunting and magestic.
Both collections reveal Schnitzer's sense of service to the social consciousness and his skill in endowing everyday images with historic and mythic associations.
