Bolón de Verde by Marco J. Munez
ARTIST STATEMENT
“Inspiration is always around us, for those who dare to look. We may never fully understand where genius comes from. It is God—not the devil—who is in the details. Artists take on the self-appointed task of noticing these moments, capturing what already exists. They are the ones who wander off the path of their journey, curiously drawn to life’s imperfect perfections. Bolón de Verde translates to "green plantain patty." It is a humble dish, commonly served on the streets and in homes across my native country of Ecuador. It's an essential part of starting the workday and perfectly complements a morning coffee—and this collection represents the comfort I found in the everyday-ness of this meal and Héctor Napolitano’s song of the same name that captures the essence of that memory for me.”
